While the new season already brought 5 new patients, there are still a couple of patients from the last season in the clinic. They had to wait for new feathers and good weather - and today there was both! The plastic starting boxes full of excited swifts, Christiane Haupt and her team drove to the old clinic in Sandäckerstraße, where they could start the wild bunch from the roof window.
The first ones where the adult swifts Laurin (from Haibach) and Perico (from Bad Kreuznach), who became mates during their stay in the clinic of almost one year. Both of them suffered from severe traumatic feather damage, as did the adult swift couple Ioreth and Vergil from Zurich, who also got back into the air (and then back to Switzerland). The next ones were juvenile Kiki from Burgau, Woody from Göttingen, and Decimus from Achern, who proofed to be sovereigns of the air. (The three of them shared a terrarium and were an inseparable group.)
There were also some juveniles from Livorno - Jason, Fallada, and the aggressive Yossi. Frankfurt's swift population becomes as international as it's human population.
Seeing more and more swifts having sensational starts and circling in the sky before disappearing in far distance, was a wonderful experience.
We are looking forward to many more such days!
