We are pleased to report the first sightings of common swifts in the Rhine-Main area for 2013:
In Dreieich, a swift was observed entering his nesting box on April, 17th.
In the evening of April 19th, five swifts were spotted over Schwanheim and another 10 were reported the next morning. Later that day, one swift was seen above the roofs of Neu-Isenburg.
Having returned from their winter home Africa, the swifts met rather mediocre weather conditions. Especially at night, temperatures are too low for this time a year. Forecasts predict, however, daytime temperatures of above 20°C by the mid of the week. We are going to use this opportunity to release a couple of patients that have recovered just recently (e.g. just finished moulting, got feathers shifted, etc.)
