Apus Europe: Italy, Poland, France

Recently, we posted "News" about patients from other European countries, who were transferred to the Frankfurt Swift Clinic:

Our Swedish patient was able to gain weight soon. The bird was under observation for a while, but luckily it developed normally and was released early enough to miss the bad weather that currently hits the Frankfurt area. This also holds for the Polish and two of the Romanian swifts.

All those swifts that need to get feathers imped, are forced to stay a little longer. There are still way more than 100 patients on the clinic. 17 more are to come from Italy, 8 from France, and two from Poland.

Feeding such a huge number of birds takes so much time that there is hardly any left for surgery. But time is running out: In only a few weeks time, starting from Frankfurt will not be possible anymore. Once it's fall, there will not be sufficient insects in the air, and the swifts will not be able to gain the energy they need to make it to the South.

As usual, we need to release them a few hundred kilometers Southern, which is a very time consuming procedure. So keep your fingers crossed that the summer is here to stay long and that we are able to release as many swifts as possible here in Frankfurt.
