The fifth air transport to Fuerteventura took place on February, 19th. Veterinary Dr. Christiane Haupt successfully released the following 9 swifts.
1.) Licia from Livorno
2.) Shari from Warendorf
3.) Tormenta from Wiesbaden
4.) Enno from Rutesheim. Enno was found on July, 5th 2012 and initially under care of his finders. On September, 3rd, they brought him to the swift clinic, because of his severe feather damage. Among these 9 swifts, Enno is the one who spent the longest under human care.
5.) Pino from Livorno
6.) Justus from Weiskirchen
7.) Daisy from Schwalbach / Taunus. Daisy got 31 feathers shifted. The feather donor is an adult swift named Evening, who was brought from Dresden on May, 1st 2012. Because of Evening's severe injuries, the only way we could help him was to relieve him by putting him to sleep.
8.) Moses from Nidderau
9.) Ginevra from Livorno. Ginerva was patient number 8,000. Ginerva received 25 feathers from Amanda, who died three years ago.
The temperature was warm, but it was cloudy and windy. A starting team of 7, organized by the local animal welfare activists Andrea and Pancho, took position around the well-known area to spot the swifts and make sure that all of them get up in the sky.
Soon after Licia took off, the buzzard (see the report of the fourth transfer) did the same. Obviously, he was was not interested in Licia, but rather chased a raven away from his territory. After Shari, Tormenta and Enno started, the team spotted a falcon and the procedure was stopped. The falcon straightly passed by the starting area and disappeared soon. Dr. Haupt waited a few more minutes, just to make sure. When a group of four swifts passed the "airfield", she decided that it was safe for Pino to start. All the remaining swifts took off without any trouble.
